rehabilitative services
Our horse first approach lends itself seamlessly to equine rehabilitation. With a comprehensive knowledge of equine anatomy and function, coupled with an understanding of what horses need for emotional wellness, overall healing is achieved. We have a background in healing extensive wounds, neurological complications secondary to disease processes, as well as overcoming the most commonly seen compensatory patterns. We collaborate with an exceptional healthcare team including a veterinary referred corrective farrier, masseuse, chiropractor, and acupuncturist, as well as our in house modalities listed below. A horse may not necessarily need all of these services, but we pride ourselves in having access to a multi-faceted approach to healing. We also have a handful of excellent animal communicators to ensure we are giving the horses autonomy in their own healing.
kinesiology taping
Equine kinesiology taping has a multitude of benefits. It promotes lymphatic drainage and circulation, facilitating quick and complete healing. It breaks the pain cycle without the side effects of long term NSAID use. It provides muscle and joint support to integral structures, keeping your horse comfortable.
I have used kinesiology tape successfully in multiple cases, including:
Acute injury rehabilitation
Fascia restriction
Proprioreceptive deficits secondary to tick borne illnesses and EPM
Arthritis
Soreness and pain relief for active, competitive horses
I am available to provide both kinesiology taping services and education. I’m a firm believer in helping caregivers to advocate and enrich their horses’ lives, and tape is a wonderful tool to utilize!
Hands on therapy
Of all of the tools available in the vast world of equine rehabilitation, the power of one’s hands cannot be oversold. The magic of connection, energetic exchange, and release is critical to the health of your equine partner. Utilizing a combination of both manual manipulation and release work, I allow the horse the space to release tension and rewire correct posture and movement patterns. Being hands-on with these amazing animals allows me to feel areas of restriction, abnormal muscle development, and assess areas of tension and discomfort.
infrared laser therapy
Horses in a training or rehabilitative program have access to the Vetrolaser Three 808nm diodes/300mW (infrared) Laser. Infrared lasers have been shown to benefit horses by relieving arthritis pain, reducing swelling and expediting healing to hematomas and soft tissue trauma, speeding and improve wound healing, and expedite healthy tissue healing to previously career ending injuries such as strained or torn tendons. Additionally, a single diode laser is used to stimulate acupuncture points to stimulate system balance in the horse.
